No Rest Art Exhibit
Indigenous Peoples’ Day also features a special exhibit at the museum: “No Rest; The Epidemic of Stolen Indigenous Women, Girls, & Two Spirits” which focuses on the epidemic of Missing Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, & Two Spirits in the United States. Murder is the 3rd leading cause of death for Indigenous women and girls aged 10-24 years old, and they face murder rates more than 10 times the national average for all ages. Four out of five Indigenous women report being subject to some sort of violence, with ninety-five percent of perpetrators in these situations being non-native. The exhibit explores the issue through art, narrative, and representation, to build awareness and empathy and drive action. No more missing, no more vanished sisters, no rest. The exhibit is on display at the museum through October 26.
